چکیده

An automatical system for geocoding and calibration of Envisat ASAR products have been developed by NORUT IT in the Envisnow EC EESD FP 5 project. The project have used data from ESA AOE 785, Cat. 2458 and near-real time data from Kongsberg Satellite station. The software is adapted to the Envisnow snow covered area processing system, and works automatically for the Envisat ASAR modes IMP, IMS, WSM, APS and APP and the ERS modes SLC and PRI and Radarsat (Standard and Fine). The software is mainly implemented in the program languages Envi/IDL under a common framework. The output is a geocoded and calibrated SAR image and different kinds of value added products in a selectable map projection. The system is used as a module in the Envisnow production line to provide high quality geocoded SAR imagery for snow cover area classification. The accuracy of the geocoding is estimated to be on average less than 1 pixel (30 m for image modes and 100 m for Wide Swath). This is verified by cross correlation the final geocoded SAR with a simulated SAR image based on DEM and SAR viewing geometry. The results are confirmed by manually overlaying different vector layers and noticing any geometrical offsets in the SAR. Due to inaccurate orbit data and SAR processing from some PAF’s, a new correction algorithm has been implemented. The algorithm is based on using the first order geocoded product based solely on orbit parameters and DEM together with the simulated SAR image. The algorithm then picks one or several control points automatically by cross-correlating sub-images of the first order geocoded SAR and the accompanying simulated image. This is subsequently used to refine or update orbit/SAR parameters for the final geocoding of the SAR scene. The method will be demonstrated and the quality assessed.

Geocoding of Terrasar-x Data

TerraSAR-X is a new German radar satellite that shall be launched in April 2006. The expected lifetime is 5 years. It carries a high frequency X-band SAR sensor that can be operated in different modes and polarisation. The Spotlight-, Stripmapand ScanSARmodes provide high resolution SAR images for detailed analysis as well as wide swath data whenever a larger coverage is required. Imaging will ...

Automated terrain corrected SAR geocoding

A technique for automated terrain corrected SAR geocoding is presented. Instead of operator selected control points the presented method uses cross-correlation with a SAR intensity image simulated from the Digital Elevation Model to refine the geocoding transformation.

Evaluation of RADARSAT-1 data for identification of burnt areas in Southern Europe

This study presents the combined analysis of RADARSAT products of different spatial resolutions acquired under different incidence angles for mapping burnt scars on forested areas of Central Portugal. Prior to the SAR data analysis, a number of pre-processing procedures were carried out. Noise was eliminated by adaptive texture preserving filtering. A specific algorithm for the geocoding of SAR...

Geocoding and Stereoscopy of Synthetic Aperture Radar Image

This thesis is concerned with the geocoding of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images and the use of stereo SAR images. The work was carried out as part of the preparation for the launch of the ERS-1 sateffite, due in July 1991, which will carry a SAR sensor. There are two basic approaches to geocoding: image-to-object and object-to-image. Both of these methods have been analysed and assessed on...

Improved Airborne SAR Data Processing by Blockwise Focusing, Mosaicking and Geocoding

Standard focusing of SAR data assumes a straight recording track of the sensor platform. Small non-linearities of airborne platform are corrected for during a motion compensation step while keeping the assumption of a stripmap geometry. In the case of high resolution and high frequency SAR systems, the navigation data may not be accurate enough to perform such a motion compensation; SAR systems...
